About us

Mission

Quornix, LLC is pioneering next-generation antivirulence therapeutics to combat Vibrio-related bacterial diseases in aquaculture and human health. Our precision-targeted solutions disarm pathogens without encouraging resistance, preserving ocean biodiversity, promoting human resilience, and securing seafood supply chains.

Beginnings

We are a women-owned startup company founded in July 2023. Find out more about our beginnings here:

Our therapeutics target an important bacterial process called Quorum Sensing. This is the process by which bacteria communicate through chemical signals about cell density and coordinate group behaviors. This process is responsible for turning on virulent genes (genes that cause disease). By inhibiting the bacteria's ability to cause disease, but not affecting its ability to grow, we are effectively halting disease without putting any selective pressure on the bacteria to evolve resistance to the therapeutics.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are antivirulence therapeutics different than antibiotics?

Antivirulence therapeutics target bacterial virulence factors to prevent the bacteria from causing disease. The therapeutics target bacteria but do not interfere with cellular processes that allow the bacteria to grow and survive. This is unlike antibiotics that inhibit or block these normal cellular mechanisms and often kill bacteria.

How do you ensure safety?

While our therapeutics are very specific for their target, and so far lack off-target effects, we are working to conduct rigorous testing and adhere to regulatory standards to ensure the safety of our therapeutics.

What diseases do you focus on?

We focus on diseases caused by Vibrio bacteria. Our current focus is in shrimp aquaculture where these bacteria cause vibriosis. We are planning to soon move into human health where these bacteria cause gastroenteritis and necrotizing fasciitis (are flesh eating).

Are your products environmentally friendly?

We prioritize sustainable practices and environmentally friendly solutions in our biotechnology developments.
